Exploring the Region of R^3: Solving for xyz=0

In summary, a 3D coordinate system is a mathematical system used to locate a point in three-dimensional space. It differs from a 2D coordinate system by adding an additional axis (z) for depth and volume. There are three types of coordinates in a 3D system: Cartesian, spherical, and cylindrical. A point is represented by an ordered triple (x, y, z) in a 3D system. The purpose of using a 3D coordinate system in scientific research is to precisely locate and measure points in three-dimensional space, making it essential in fields such as physics, engineering, and computer graphics.

Homework Statement

Describe in words the region of R^3 represented by the equation or inequality.

Homework Equations

xyz=0

The Attempt at a Solution

I'm not really sure how to look at the equation. I would think its just the point (0,0,0). Can someone explain if this is wrong.

Um, (1,0,0) also satisfies the equation. Describe the other points that do.

Surely you know "if AB= 0 then either A= 0 or B= 0 or both".

1. What is a 3D coordinate system?

A 3D coordinate system is a mathematical system used to locate a point in three-dimensional space. It consists of three perpendicular axes (x, y, and z) and a reference point called the origin.

2. How does a 3D coordinate system differ from a 2D coordinate system?

A 3D coordinate system adds an additional axis (z) to the traditional x-y plane of a 2D coordinate system, allowing for the representation of depth and volume in addition to length and width.

3. What are the three types of coordinates in a 3D coordinate system?

The three types of coordinates in a 3D coordinate system are Cartesian coordinates (x, y, z), spherical coordinates (r, θ, φ), and cylindrical coordinates (ρ, θ, z).

4. How is a point represented in a 3D coordinate system?

A point in a 3D coordinate system is represented by an ordered triple (x, y, z), where x represents the horizontal position, y represents the vertical position, and z represents the depth or distance from the origin.

5. What is the purpose of using a 3D coordinate system in scientific research?

A 3D coordinate system is essential in scientific research as it allows for the precise location and measurement of points in three-dimensional space. This is crucial in fields such as physics, engineering, and computer graphics.
