In summary, a tragic incident occurred where a man at UCLA took his own life and the lives of his family due to financial struggles. This highlights the impact of the economy on people's mental health, not just in the US but also in Japan where volunteers patrol cliff tops to prevent suicides. This issue is also discussed in another story where a man in the UK questions the effect of the economy on mental health.

This is so sad. The oldest son was a student at UCLA.

"The source of it appears to be a financial state, a crisis if you will, that this man became embroiled in that has unfolded over the past weeks," Moore said.

The man wrote in his suicide letter that he felt he had two options — to just kill himself or to kill himself and his family — and decided the second option was more honorable, Moore said.

I worry about the toll that the U.S. economy is taking on people's mental health.

That's sad. I suspected Japan had a high-suicide rate, but didn't know it was that bad.

He has saved around a 150 people who had planned to kill themselves, many more men than women. Often their problems are to do with work.

Extraordinary lucky man.

It is sad but I really don't know if it is right or wrong ... Was he wrong when he got attached to money and everything that money could buy .. or when he wasn't left with any money.

We need 1929 statistics to say anything about:

I would guess that they would have to be mentally unstable to begin with but it can certainly be a factor in pushing them over that fence.

How sad. I hope everyone keeps a positive outlook on life even when beset with problems. Negativity will only add to your troubles.
