    Match the lyrics from the official state songs to the state: (change the text color of your answer to white)

    A. Colorado
    B. Florida
    C. Indiana
    D. Kansas
    E. Louisiana
    F. Maryland
    G. Missouri
    H. Ohio
    J. Oklahoma
    K. Tennessee
    L. West Virginia

    1) But now you've left me
    And love another
    You have shattered all my dreams

    2) The bison is gone from the upland,
    the deer from the canyon has fled,
    The home of the wolf is deserted,
    the antelope moans for his dead,

    3) All de world am sad and dreary,
    Eb-rywhere I roam;
    Oh, darkeys, how my heart grows weary,
    Far from de old folks at home!

    4) 'Twas long ago our fathers came,
    A free and noble band,
    Across the mountain's frowning heights
    To seek a promised land.

    5) Oh! give me a gale of the Solomon vale,
    Where the life streams with buoyancy flow;
    On the banks of the Beaver, where seldom if ever,
    Any poisonous herbage doth grow.

    6) Brand new state! Brand new state, gonna treat you great!
    Gonna give you barley, carrots and pertaters,
    Pasture fer the cattle, Spinach and Temayters!

    7) I sailed away;
    Wandered afar;
    Crossed the mighty restless sea;

    8) When I was a little child on my mommy's knee;
    The old folks were hummin', their banjos were strummin'
    So sweet and low.

    9) Many years have passed since I strolled by the river,
    Arm in arm, with sweetheart Mary by my side,
    It was there I tried to tell her that I loved her,

    10) Once I had a girl on Rocky Top;
    Half bear, other half cat;
    Wild as a mink, but sweet as soda pop,
    I still dream about that;

    11) She is not dead, nor deaf, nor dumb-
    Huzza! she spurns the Northern scum!
    She breathes! she burns! she'll come! she'll come!

    12) Where my childhood hours were passed,
    Where I often wandered lonely, And the future tried to cast;
    Many are our visions bright, Which the future ne'er fulfills;

    I know. You'd think state songs would be a little more inspirational.

    I want to live in #6! :biggrin:

    Or at least where seldom is grown poisonous herbage. Kind of ironic if you know the state and the issue they had about destroying the habitat of quail.

    I think I'll stay away from #11 too. :rolleyes:

    I know which state fits Rocky Top. I heard that one a few times while on a road trip down south. I guess it fits. :rofl: :uhh:

    Maryland's state song was written in April 1861 when civil war broke out. The 'despot's heel' in the first verse refers to President Lincoln, who marched troops into Maryland in anticipation of a Confederate invasion. It became Maryland's state song in 1939.

    Which side did Maryland fight for, again?

    Maryland was a slave state. Which side the fought for, I don't know.
