A Quadrillion Standard Models from F-theory arxiv.org/pdf/1903.00009

In summary, the article presents a construction of O(1015) globally consistent string compactifications that can realize the exact chiral spectrum of the Standard Model of particle physics with gauge coupling unification. This is achieved through the use of algebraic geometry, reducing all global consistency conditions to a single criterion on the base of the underlying elliptically fibered Calabi–Yau fourfolds. Additionally, for toric bases, this criterion depends only on an associated polytope and is satisfied for at least O(1015) bases, each defining a distinct compactification. The article also mentions a Scientific American article discussing the possibility of a quadrillion ways for string theory to explain our universe.

Of course I agree with you on that. But as things stand, none of those "standard models" can be tested, because they can't calculate what they predict for any of the standard model parameters.

It won't die, unless we'll let it.
