A question about pop pop boats

In summary, the efficiency of a pop pop boat may be affected by the compression of the reservoir. However, the main question to consider is whether the boat would still function without this compression. The principle behind these boats is similar to that of a pulse jet, and the pressure changes are necessary for the engine to work. When the water flashes into steam, it pushes on the tin, causing it to pop out and lose force against the expelled water.

wouldn't a pop pop boat be more efficient without the compresion of the resivour?

I think a better question here is "would it still work without it?".

I've never heard of these boats before and I looked up the basic principle and it seems relatively simple. Rather similar to how a pulse jet works.

You need the pressure changes otherwise the engine won't work.

yes but when the water flashes into stem all it is doing is pushing on the tin. as a result the tin pops out. when it pops out it loses force to the water being expelled. right?

1. What is a pop pop boat?

A pop pop boat is a small toy boat that is powered by a simple steam engine. It is usually made out of simple materials such as tin cans and utilizes the principle of thermal expansion to create propulsion.

2. How does a pop pop boat work?

A pop pop boat works by using heat from a small candle or other heat source to heat up water inside a small chamber. As the water heats up, it expands and forces air out through a small exhaust pipe, creating thrust and propelling the boat forward.

3. What materials are needed to make a pop pop boat?

To make a pop pop boat, you will need a tin can, a small candle, an exhaust pipe, and some basic tools such as scissors and pliers. Optional materials may include a small motor or propeller to enhance the boat's performance.

4. Can you control the speed and direction of a pop pop boat?

While the speed and direction of a pop pop boat are primarily determined by the size and shape of the exhaust pipe, you can slightly control the direction by bending the pipe or adjusting the angle of the boat. However, pop pop boats are not known for their precise control and are mainly for recreational use.

5. Are pop pop boats safe for children to play with?

Pop pop boats are generally considered safe for children to play with, as long as they are supervised by an adult and proper safety precautions are taken. The use of candles and hot water can pose a risk, so it is important to teach children how to handle these materials safely. It is also recommended to use the boat in a controlled environment, such as a bathtub, to avoid any accidents.
