Aileron sizing

  1. Feb 11, 2014 #1
Good day everyone, I was designning the wing for a school project and I wonder if there is any equation for defining the aileron size. I am designing a straight rectangular wing. I just found on other forums that the aileron's lenght should be 0.25 of the wingspan and the aileron chord should be 0.25 of the wing mean chord.

Raymer's Aircraft design; A conceptual approach and Anderson's Aircraft performance and design have lots of information.

I'm sure comparing a bunch of wings will eventually yield a value you could use but the speed it is designed to operate might factor in.
