Many people are ignorant of the important fact that the plural of penis is penes. This situation must be rectified, and fortunately, I just found the following pdf-file presenting a penetrating analysis of this problem, examining it in its full length and girth.

Yes... fortunately.

Sorry, but
Many people who deal with penises professionally use the Latin-style
plural penes instead.
So that's why you're all worked up about this...

I'd rather say his penile plurality would make him into a grand attraction, but have it your way, then.

I tend to work with just one at a time, so don't need to be too concerned about the plural. Though, penises works just fine.

Definitely, we need to straighten out stuff. Selflessly, I'm working towards that end every day.

Penes are boring?

Using a penis isn't boring. Reading an essay about the grammatical properties of the word "penis," on the other hand . . .

Well, I didn't know before today about the different declinations in Latin, so I found the essay worthwhile.

Okay, well, I suppose noun declension can be pretty fascinating. German has them; I take it Norwegian does not? My first exposure to them personally was through Greek.

I had made up penii, but after reading arildno's link I am convinced that the correct plural form is penes. Sort of like "hypothesis : hypotheses." I stand corrected.

Right. If it were "penii" then it would be spelled singularly as "penus" or "penius." :uhh:

Colloquially I've also heard it plurally as a "sausage fest."

Anyone else posting here feel kind of awkward?

A man can't have two. The plural form does not exist.

Oh wait a minute, that's "Parent" magazine, but I'm sure it would still support this.

This is some very faulty logic.

You mean that a sentence like "I played with fourscore penes last night" is without meaning??

1. What is the plural of penis?

The plural of penis is penises.

2. Why is the plural of penis not "peni"?

The word "penis" is derived from the Latin word "penis", which does not have a plural form. As a result, the plural form of penis follows the general English rule of adding -es to form the plural.

3. Are there any exceptions to the plural of penis?

Yes, there is one exception to the plural of penis. When referring to multiple types of the same species of animal, the plural form of penis is penes. This is because in Latin, the word "penis" is a masculine noun and follows different rules for pluralization.

4. Can "penises" also refer to objects other than human male genitalia?

Yes, "penises" can refer to the male reproductive organ of any animal, not just humans. It can also refer to the male reproductive organ of plants, such as the stamen in flowers.

5. Is it grammatically correct to use "penii" as the plural of penis?

No, "penii" is not a grammatically correct plural form of penis. This is a common misconception, likely stemming from the incorrect belief that the word "penis" has Latin roots and should follow Latin pluralization rules. However, in Latin, the word "penis" does not have a plural form.
