An alternating current is an analogue signal.

An analogue signal is a signal which can take a whole range of values within a certain range.

For example, i(t) = I sin(2pit) takes all the values between -I and I so it's analogue.

An alternating current is a current which alternates between two values ( two extremes ), which are of opposite sign.

i(t) is also an alternating signal.
