Beam under axial and vertical loading? (different cross-sections)

Hi, I am a final year student whos doing engineering and my final year project involves designing a track system which the track has an axial and vertical loading(twisting) to it, well the axial loading is caused by the vertical loading.

I have limited resources and need to pick aluminium alloys from different cross-sections. The thing is how do i analyse different cross-sections providing they are gonna be quite different?
Or any books recommend for me to have a look at?

Thank you, Kent Zhou.
