Best option for BSc

  1. Jul 17, 2010 #1
There are so many choices and I don't know which direction to follow. I will try and give as much information as possible so that you can help me make the best decision.
This is in South Africa by the way. Also I want to try and go into theoretical physics after my BSc.

    Options:
    1. Go to my nearest University NMMU (Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University) which doesn't have theoretical physics as a postgraduate subject and complete a normal BSc in physics (I don't know what subjects to choose in order to go into theoretical physics). After I complete my BSc I go to UCT (University of Cape Town) and do my honours, etc. in theoretical physics. By the way, NMMU is the cheapest of the options and nearest to where I live so I won't have to live at any residence.
    2. Go straight to UCT and do my BSc there and also continue there into theoretical physics. But they are really expensive and I will have to stay at residence or something similar.
    3. Or I can go to SUN (Stellenbosch University) and do this BSc course http://science.sun.ac.za/index.php?alias=students&calias=students45&lang=eng of which I already made a thread, a long time ago: https://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=309908

There are so many different options and these are the few I have narrowed down to. I will be applying soon.

Science faculty websites of Universities listed:
    NMMU: http://www.nmmu.ac.za/default.asp?id=136&bhcp=1
    ---Physics department: http://www.nmmu.ac.za/default.asp?id=388&bhcp=1
    ---Maths department: http://www.nmmu.ac.za/default.asp?id=296&bhcp=1

    UCT: http://www.science.uct.ac.za/
    ---Physics department: http://www.phy.uct.ac.za/
    ---Maths department: http://mth.uct.ac.za/

    SUN: http://science.sun.ac.za/
    ---Physics department: http://academic.sun.ac.za/physics/
    ---Maths department: http://math.sun.ac.za/

    Thanks

If someone can just tell me what subjects for my BSc, I must choose for my first year to possibly continue in the field of theoretical physics afterwards as a postgraduate. That will already help a lot.

    Thanks
