    Best readings for me....plz help

Hi, I am literally dying him as my questions and outnumbered the answers and everything seems hopeless. I gotta satisfy this hunger before the state championship or else I won't be in my best mental state.(all confused, and down) I wonder questions like what is temperature, How does time have a beginning, how is matter formed, etc.? Now, I am already reading "Universe in a Nutshell" by Stephen Hawkings but what will be more good readings for me that go really into the physics w/o too much math and drama.(history of physics)
