MathJax LaTeX Commands Not Working? Find Solutions on Latest Documentation

In summary, the conversation discusses the use of MathJax for typesetting mathematical expressions in posts on PF. It mentions the links to MathJax documentation, including a list of supported LaTeX commands, and suggests another link for a subset of supported commands. It also notes that the PF version may not support all packages listed on the MathJax documentation page. The moderators do not have access to the PF auxiliary files anymore.

TL;DR Summary
list of supported commands seems to have moved
For MathJax documentation, see the https://docs.mathjax.org/en/latest/mathjax.html. In particular, you can find a complete list of LaTeX commands supported by MathJax https://docs.mathjax.org/en/latest/tex.html#supported-latex-commands

Last link points to https://docs.mathjax.org/en/latest/tex.html#supported-latex-commands which is no more

I think it's https://docs.mathjax.org/en/latest/input/tex/macros/index.html nowHowever, there is far too much in there that doesn't work in the PF version, so maybe there is another link for our subset ?

I think it should be
http://docs.mathjax.org/en/latest/
behind the first mention of "MathJax" in
LaTeX is the standard language used by mathematicians, physicists, etc. for typesetting mathematical expressions. PF uses https://docs.mathjax.org/en/latest/mathjax.html, a Javascript-based engine, to process LaTeX code in posts and render it in the way you would see it in a textbook.
and an additional sentence with your link
https://docs.mathjax.org/en/latest/input/tex/macros/index.html
should be added in order to point to the supported TeX commands. Maybe with the additional link
https://www.onemathematicalcat.org/MathJaxDocumentation/TeXSyntax.htm
found there.

Note the comment on that page "If the package name is in italics, then the package is not autoloaded by the autoload extension." Like most sites that use MathJax I believe PF only supports autoloaded packages so the list you seek is the list excluding rows with italics in the second column.

We moderators used to have access to PF auxiliary files like the LaTeX tutorial, but AFAIK we don't have access any longer. This is something that @Greg Bernhardt would need to address.

On it, thanks!

1. Why are my MathJax LaTeX commands not working?

The most common reason for MathJax LaTeX commands not working is an incorrect setup or installation of the MathJax library. Make sure you have included the MathJax script in your HTML document and that it is properly configured.

2. How do I include the MathJax library in my HTML document?

To include the MathJax library in your HTML document, you can use the <script> tag with the source attribute set to the MathJax CDN link. Alternatively, you can download the MathJax library and host it on your own server.

3. What is the correct syntax for using MathJax LaTeX commands?

The syntax for using MathJax LaTeX commands is similar to LaTeX syntax, with the addition of backslashes to escape special characters. For example, to display an equation, you would use \(x^2 + y^2 = z^2\) or \[x^2 + y^2 = z^2\].

4. How can I troubleshoot issues with my MathJax LaTeX commands?

If your MathJax LaTeX commands are not working, you can try clearing your browser's cache and refreshing the page. You can also check the browser console for any error messages related to MathJax. If the issue persists, refer to the MathJax documentation for further troubleshooting steps.

5. Where can I find the latest documentation for MathJax LaTeX commands?

The latest documentation for MathJax LaTeX commands can be found on the official MathJax website. They provide a comprehensive user guide, tutorials, and a FAQ section to help you understand and use the MathJax library effectively.
