Homework Help: Calulating shimmy on nosegear

  1. Nov 27, 2008 #1
    hi,

i have managed to find alot of information on what causes shimmy and how it can be prevented, but i am struggling to find any ways of calculating it for an aircraft nose gear so that i can give the nose gear of the aircraft the optimum trail.

iv got The vertical force down as f= 10000kg
    trail x =0.1m
    coefficient of friction = 0.8
    pitch diameter = 0.1m

(not sure if all are needed or if there is some values that i am missing)

any help would be much appreciated

    thanks

    johnny
