Circuit analysis

    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data
    In the figure, R = 5.8kΩ. Determine the current through the 14-V battery, and the potential difference between points a and b.

    2. Relevant equations


    3. The attempt at a solution
    I was told to use Kirchoff's Rules to analyze the circuit, but I'm not sure how I should start, and how to determine the current through each resistor.

    You need to make an attempt. Start by stating Kirchhoff's rules (laws) as your relevant equations. Apply them to the circuit. If you're stuck, search for examples of circuits analyzed using them: "kirchhoff practice problems".

    Helpers won't start or do your homework, only offer guidance after you've made an attempt.
