Commutation in dc generator

    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data
    See , in the methods of improving the commtuation , one of the method is using interpoles now what I think that interpoles aids commutation by nullifying the reactance voltage in the conductors.
    Though this point is mentioned with the working but it is also mentioned that interpoles cancels the cross flux , I wanted to ask if opposing the cross flux aids in commutation or is it just application of interpoles which has nothing to do with commutation aiding ? I am a bit confused about this as cross flux deteriorate the main flux but does it affect the commutation?

    Interpoles ar supplied more than that of armature so that it cancels the cross armature flux and the remaining mmf used in cancelling the reactance voltage so that the mmf at the conductors under brush become zero and hence good commutation occurs
