Homework Statement


If a 30 g bullet is shot with a velocity of +300 m/s from a 7.5 kg gun, what is the recoil velocity of the gun?

m1 = 0.03 kg
v1 = 300 m/s
m2 = 7.5 kg

Velocity initial for both objects is 0.0 m/s

Homework Equations



(m1 + m2)(v) = (m1v1) + (m2v2)


The Attempt at a Solution



0 = (0.03kg x 300m/s) + (7.5kg x v)
0 = 9kgm/s = (7.5kg x v)
-9kgm/s = 7.5 kg x v
v = -1.2 m/s
