Conservation of momentum

  1. May 10, 2008 #1
    A 1000-kg compact car moving with a velocity of v1 = (32i + 17j)ms-1 collides with a 450-kg wagon moving with a velocity v2 = (12i + 14j)ms-1. If the two stick together after collision, what is the velocity of the wreck?

    I'm just verifying that i did this correctly..:

    P(Momentum)
    Pi=32000i+17000j+5400i+6300j
    Pi=37400i+23300j
    Pf=1450v
    Pi=Pf
    Pi=37400i+23300j=1450v
    v=25.8m/si + 16m/sj
    v=30.4m/s
    theta=32 degrees
