Cosmic Expansion: Benefits of Hubble Law over Stretching Space(-Time)

The Hubble Law describes the relationship between the distance of a galaxy and its velocity, which suggests that the expansion of the universe is due to the movement of distant galaxies, rather than the stretching of space itself. Therefore, it is more accurate to prefer the explanation of distant galaxies moving apart according to the Hubble Law as the cause of cosmological expansion rather than the idea of cosmic space stretching like in the vicinity of black holes. In summary, the Hubble Law provides a more accurate explanation for cosmological expansion than the concept of spacetime stretching near black holes.

Why should you prefer the view that cosmological expansion is due to distant galaxies moving apart according to the Hubble Law instead of cosmic space stretching, like stretching of space(-time) in the vicinity of black holes?

First, spacetime does not "stretch" near black holes. It is curved.

Second, "distant galaxies moving apart" and "spacetime being curved" are not two different things. They are just two different ways of describing the same thing.

1. What is cosmic expansion?

Cosmic expansion is the phenomenon in which the space between celestial objects in the universe is continuously increasing. This expansion is believed to be caused by the force of dark energy, which is pushing galaxies further apart.

2. What is the Hubble Law?

The Hubble Law, also known as the Hubble Expansion, is a fundamental law of cosmology that describes the relationship between the distance of an object in the universe and its velocity. It states that the farther away an object is, the faster it is moving away from us.

3. How does the Hubble Law benefit our understanding of cosmic expansion?

The Hubble Law allows scientists to measure the rate of cosmic expansion and understand the evolution of the universe. It also provides evidence for the Big Bang theory and helps us understand the age, size, and composition of the universe.

4. What are the advantages of using the Hubble Law over the concept of stretching space(-time)?

The Hubble Law is based on observable data and does not require any assumptions about the nature of space or time. It also allows for more accurate predictions of the expansion rate and can be used to measure distances to faraway objects.

5. How does the Hubble Law support the concept of an expanding universe?

The Hubble Law provides strong evidence for the expansion of the universe by showing that the farther away a galaxy is, the faster it is moving away from us. This supports the idea of an expanding universe and the concept of cosmic expansion.
