Homework Help: Could someone check this please? (gravitational fiel and weight questions)

  1. Jan 19, 2010 #1
    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data

    Q. Find g of the sun at the earth and Fg of the sun at the Earth.

    Given:
    G= 6.67x10-11 Nm2/km2
    d= 1.496x1011m
    m (sun)= 1.9891x1030 kg
    m (earth)= 6.0x1024 kg

    2. Relevant equations

    gsun at earth= Gxmsun/d2
    Fgsun at earth= mearthxgsun at earth

    I'm not entirely sure if these are right.

    3. The attempt at a solution

    g= (6.67x10-11 Nm2/km2)(1.9891x1030 kg)/(1.496x1011m)2
    = 5.93x10-3 N/kg

    Fg= (6.0x1024 kg)(5.93x10-3 N/kg)
    = 3.538 x1022 N

    Thank you very much!
