Homework Help: Covert tartaric acid to H2C2O4

    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data
    As in the photo

    2. Relevant equations

    3. The attempt at a solution
    i need ans for this whole question . my ans for part i ) is oxalic acid - dicarboxlic acid tartaric acid - 2,3-dihydroxo-1,4-dicarboxlic acid .

    for part c ) I used dilute KMNO4 to differentiate these 2 compounds . Oxalic acid will show positive result , which is CO2 ANH H20 formed , and purple KMON4 decoulorises.

    Then try to answer it. Asking four question and answering two of them to pretend you attempted to solve won't work.

    Your names are wrong. 30 seconds googling to find the correct ones on the web.

    well , the ans for tartraic acid acid is 2,3-dihydroxybutanedioic acid... i am wondering why not 2,3-dihydroxy-1,4-butanedioic acid... Why the 1, 4 is not needed?
