Homework Help: Current Carrying rod

  1. Jun 6, 2012 #1
    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data

If an aluminium disk is placed above a COMPLETELY vertical current carrying iron rod will any flux link with the aluminium disk ASSUMING ideal situations

    2. Relevant equations

    3. The attempt at a solution

I think not because the current carrying rod produces a circular field around itself (right hand corkscrew rule) but am not sure...can someone please confirm this :)

also, why is it important if the current is AC or DC?
