Current in Potentiometer

  1. Apr 7, 2014 #1
While using the potentiometer to measure the emf of an unknown battery the slider is adjusted so that the reading in galvanometer is 0 which means no current flows through the unknown emf.

Why doesn't current flow if the emf of the unknown cell and potential difference between two points in potentiometer is equal?

Doesn't both cells try to flow current in the same direction through the potentiometer?

    Miraj kayastha,

Can you please post a clear schematic diagram of your test set up? Show both cells, the potentiometer, the galvanometer, and all the connections. If so, then others may be able to answer your questions. Thank you.
