Really just looking for a link to a decent IDL beginner tutorial (I have plenty of Matlab etc experience, still, I'd like to make sure I'm starting the best way from scratch) or recommend a good book on the subject?
thanks.
thanks.
IDL stands for Interactive Data Language and is a programming language used for data analysis, visualization, and manipulation. It is commonly used in the scientific community for tasks such as image processing, statistical analysis, and creating scientific plots and charts.
IDL is a widely used language in the scientific community, particularly in fields such as astronomy, geology, and atmospheric sciences. Learning IDL can greatly enhance your data analysis and visualization skills, making you more competitive in the job market and allowing you to easily collaborate with other scientists.
Like any programming language, there is a learning curve with IDL. However, many find it relatively easy to pick up, especially if they have experience with other programming languages. There are also numerous tutorials, forums, and resources available online to help beginners learn IDL.
IDL is commonly used for data analysis, image processing, and creating scientific plots and charts. It is also used for creating customized tools and programs for specific research projects. Some specific applications of IDL include processing and analyzing astronomical data, creating maps and visualizations of Earth's atmosphere, and analyzing geological data.
Yes, there are several alternatives to IDL, such as Python, R, and MATLAB. These languages also have capabilities for data analysis, visualization, and scientific computing. However, IDL is still widely used and preferred by many scientists for its ease of use and specific features tailored to data analysis in the sciences.
