Do amps matter?

  1. Mar 8, 2005 #1
I have two laptop computers but a car charger for only one of them. The charger says it produces 18.5V 4.9amps. Will this be OK for the other laptop - the specific charger sold by the manufacturer produces 18.5V 2.5amps. Thanks! :grumpy:

The current specifications on devices like these are the MAXIMUM current the device is able to supply. These devices produce a specific potential (voltage) and the thing you plug into it determines how much current must be delivered.

As long as your new charger can produce as least as much current as your old charger, you should be fine.
