Electric vs. Magnetic Field

  1. Sep 3, 2006 #1
What is the difference between an electric and a magnetic field? Are both related to virtual photons? Is an electric field the result of the presence of charged particles, while the magnetic field is a result of the movement of charged particles?

And to answer one of your questions, yes both the electric and magnetic force is thought to be mediated by exchange photons. Often, they are considered together as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetism" [Broken]
