English 101 - How do you pronounce Schaums?

  1. Oct 30, 2005 #1
How do you pronounce Schaums as in the popular Schaums outlines? Is it Schaums as in "Shawms" or "Skawms". I heard someone calling it "Skooms" today and chuckled. I've always said it as "Shawms" is that correct?
    Just curious...
    Thanks

It's German so it's pronounced 'shaum' with 'au' as in 'frau' or 'how'

I have always heard it like Fourier's first suggestion...pronounced like 'Shawms'.
