Understanding Entangled Particles: Is it Possible?

In summary, it is possible to maintain two particles in an entangled superposition for long periods of time, as demonstrated by experiments such as those described in arXiv:1006.4344 and arXiv:quant-ph/9806043. Welcome to PhysicsForums and thank you for your question!

I am trying to understand how it may be possible to maintain two particles in an entangled superposition.

Is this possible or has this already been done?

Your question could be interpreted several ways. No shortage of experiments demonstrating entanglement, if that is your question. If it is more about maintaining it for longer periods of time or over longer distances:

1 hour of entanglement

10 km separation (there has been much longer too, across the Canary Islands)

Dear Dr Chinese,

Thank you for the answer, I was trying to find out about entanglement maintained for long periods.

And its great to be here at Physics forum thanks.

1. What are entangled particles?

Entangled particles are two or more particles that are connected in such a way that the state of one particle affects the state of the other, regardless of the distance between them.

2. How does entanglement occur?

Entanglement occurs when two or more particles interact with each other and become correlated in their properties. This can happen through a variety of physical processes, such as colliding or interacting electromagnetically.

3. Is it possible to understand entangled particles?

While scientists have been able to observe and study entangled particles, there is still much that is not fully understood about this phenomenon. The concept of entanglement challenges our understanding of traditional physics and continues to be an area of active research.

4. Can entangled particles be used for communication?

Entanglement cannot be used for communication as it does not allow for the transfer of information. While the state of one particle can be affected by the state of the other, this effect is random and cannot be controlled or manipulated.

5. How is entanglement being used in technology?

Entanglement is being explored as a potential tool for quantum computing, as it allows for the manipulation of multiple particles simultaneously. It is also being studied for use in secure communication and cryptography.
