Someone that would decide which argument had scientific merit based on who appeared to be nicer is a lost cause. If that's how they accept what is valid, then as soon as the next "nice" crackpot comes along, they'll believe them. It's the difference between being sensible and gullible. You're wasting your breath on these people
This is the average person. Look at statistics on the number of people who think ID is plausible or that angels or ghosts exist. If scientists just blow these people off as gullible then how do you think they are going to feel about scientists and their scientific explanations? Why waste your breath defending their education?
