Explain compressive load

    can someone give me the defination of compressive load

    so i can work out a question

    which involves


    solid brick pier having :....
    ....325mm square section, and 2.4m height, subjected to an axial load of 400kN

    its fine now dude, iv sorted it out. thanks anyway.

    but the question is..
