FarmVille Gets Un-Virtual with Real World Cross-Promotions

Virtual farming craze leads to real food products available in your local 7-11 convenience store. http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=virtualnavigator.wordpress.com&blog=11498882&post=118&subd=virtualnavigator&ref=&feed=1

I find it fascinating how well farmville does as a game that has really no point at all. In most MMO's that draw people online you find that people work to compete with eachother and are even willing to shell out extra money to get a leg up on the other players. In some cases this becomes so rampant that in order to compete you have to be willing to shell out real money for your virtual rewards. In farmville, this atmosphere has been created where people will spend real money to get a leg up in a free game with no objective, limited social interaction, and a really no competition. Its a mildly amusing game that makes money. Lots and lots of money.
