In summary, the mass of an object can be found by using a balance or scale to measure its weight. Mass is a measure of the amount of matter in an object, while weight is a measure of the force of gravity acting on it. Mass can also be calculated by dividing the density of the object by its volume. To convert mass from one unit to another, use conversion factors. Accurately determining the mass of an object is important for various purposes, such as determining material quantity, calculating force, and understanding physical properties.

Homework Statement

An object with a net charge of 18 µC is placed in a uniform electric field of 597 N/C, directed vertically. What is the mass of the object if it floats in the electric field?

Homework Equations

F=kq1q2/r^2

Ok, start with the first statement, they said the electric field is directed upwards. So what force is upwards?

Naturally what force will be exerted on the mass downwards?

Now put these two equal to each other.

thank you i solved it

1. How do you find the mass of an object?

The mass of an object can be found by using a balance or scale to measure the weight of the object.

2. What is the difference between mass and weight?

Mass is a measure of the amount of matter in an object, while weight is a measure of the force of gravity acting on an object. Mass is constant, while weight can change depending on the strength of gravity.

3. Can you find the mass of an object without a scale?

Yes, the mass of an object can also be calculated by dividing the density of the object by its volume. This method is often used for irregularly shaped objects.

4. How do you convert mass from one unit to another?

To convert mass from one unit to another, use the conversion factors for the units involved. For example, to convert kilograms to pounds, multiply the mass in kilograms by 2.205.

5. Why is it important to accurately determine the mass of an object?

Determining the mass of an object is important for many reasons. It can help in determining the amount of material needed for a project, calculating the force needed to move an object, and understanding the physical properties of the object.
