Why Do We Think the Universe is Flat and How Does it Tie to Inflation?

In summary, the concept of a flat universe is based on the idea that the universe appears to be uniformly expanding in all directions, with no curvature or edges. This is supported by observations of the cosmic microwave background radiation and the distribution of galaxies. The theory of inflation, which suggests that the universe underwent a period of rapid expansion in its early stages, helps to explain why the universe appears flat. This is because inflation would have smoothed out any potential curvature, resulting in a flat appearance on a large scale. The idea of a flat universe has significant implications for our understanding of the fundamental laws and structure of the universe.

struggling to tie up Inflationary universe with a flat structure. my 3-dimensional mind intuitive leads to think about Universe as a growing bubble which would be consistent with inflation. seeking an explanation to why we think the universe is flat and how it ties to inflation.
