Fluorescent lights.

  1. Oct 15, 2005 #1
My family just bought a bunch of fluorescent light bulbs for the house. I was just wondering if they are bad for my eyes, and should I allow for them to be in my room. Currently I have 4 regular incandescent light bulbs in my room. Are there only benefits with fluorescent light bulbs, and is the whole "They arn't good for your eyes" just a myth? Thanks.

They can't harm your eyes unless you break one and poke yourself with it. You might notice a bit of discomfort if they flicker visibly. Some people are bothered by that and some aren't. It also depends upon the condition of the bulb. The flicker slows down and becomes a lot more pronounced as they age. That takes a long time, though, and then you just change it. The energy savings make it well worth switching over.
