Flux and fringing

  1. Does anyone know why flux through a e.g ringed core doesn't change even if we introduce a airgap that causes fringing?

is it because fringing only causes the path of the flux is be more spread out (so flux density decreases) but we still have the same amount of flux flowing in our core
