Homework Help: Forces question

  1. Dec 9, 2009 #1
    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data
    A boy puts a 250kg elephant on a piece of carpeting and slides it across the floor by exerting a horizontal force of 425N on the elephant

    2. Relevant equations
    Ff = uKFn

    3. The attempt at a solution
    Fn = Fg
    Fnet = Fap - Ff
    Fnet = 425 - Ff
    ma = 425 - uKFn
    250a = 425 - uK(2450)

    mue=f max/fn
    425N/(250x9.81)
    mue=.173

    I believe thats how you do it
