Frequency of sound wave

  1. May 27, 2006 #1
    Sir,
    Velocity of sound waves in air is 330 m/sec. For a particular sound in air a path difference of 40 cm is equivalent to a phase difference of 1.6 pi. What is the frequency of this wave?
    I solved it in the following way:
    Let d(phi) = phase difference, dy = path difference
    Here d(phi) = 1.6 pi, dy = 0.4 m, lamda = wavelength
    d(phi) = [2(pi)/lamda] x dy
    Solving I get,
    Lamda = 0.5 metre
    Frequency = v/lamda
    = 660 Hz
    Is it right?
