Homework Statement

Any respond to these questions is appreciated!
Sorry for wrong concepts(if any) but im really poor in physics.

1)I got this from my physics book, and i cant understand it!
a) Speed of electromagnetic waves in a given medium depends on their frequencies
b) Speed of mechanical waves in a given medium is independent of its frequency

2) i) Suppose an electromagnetic wave, which, the frequency or the wavelength, changes when going from one medium to another?
For what i know is the frequency always remain constant for a specific wave, but if so, will a visible light changes to infrared when it goes through a denser medium(since the wavelength decreases until certain extent that it no longer belongs to the original spectrum)?

ii) And, does the same thing happens to mechanical waves?
