Fuel droplets in SI engine cylinder

  1. Oct 13, 2005 #1
What happens to large (greater than 100 micrometer) fuel droplets (however few) in the SI engine cylinder?

Do they move up along with the piston or do they get deposited on the piston itself?

With all that turbulance in the cylinder I don't think the droplets would stick to the cylinder walls. Now if the piston runs in to the droplet it will probably 'break it up' in to smaller droplets (on exhaust up-stroke). On the compress stroke the droplet would probably stick to the piston due to pressure....
