Fundamental knowledge for studying protein structure

  1. Aug 13, 2013 #1
    Hi everyone,
I am physics student but is interested in studying biology as well. I plan to take on a project on studying protein structure ( to be specific, structure of ion channels). I am rather weak in chemistry though, so I am wondering what fundamental knowledge in chemistry/biology (e.g. something about the properties and interactions between amino acids?) I need for my study. Is there anyone who work in similar field as a physicist can provide me with suggestion of textbooks that are suitable for my study?
    MANY THANKS in advance!
