Witness the Shuttle's Final Launch: A Time-Lapse Movie

In summary, the speaker expresses their admiration for the engineering behind the shuttle, despite its effectiveness as a means of getting things into orbit. They also mention a time-lapse video of the shuttle's last day at work, noting the nervousness of the crane operator and the interesting wiggle when the shuttle is rotated. They also suggest that the speed of the time-lapse could be used to calculate the shuttle's period as a torsional pendulum. The link provided further explains the process behind the video.

Whatever you think of the shuttle as an effective way of getting stuff to orbit it's still a cool piece of engineering. Here is a time-lapse movie of it's last day at work.

ps. sorry you have to watch a 20sec ad first

pps. that's got to be one nervous crane operator!

Wow. Very cool. I like the little wiggle you get when the shuttle is rotated. If you knew how fast the time lapse is, you could calculate the period of the shuttle as a torsional pendulum!

The link explains how they did it, although i assume they didn't do a constant rate throughout.

What is "Witness the Shuttle's Final Launch: A Time-Lapse Movie"?

"Witness the Shuttle's Final Launch: A Time-Lapse Movie" is a time-lapse video that captures the final launch of the Space Shuttle program on July 8, 2011. It was filmed from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and shows the shuttle Atlantis blasting off into space.

How was the time-lapse movie created?

The time-lapse movie was created by using multiple cameras placed at different locations around the Kennedy Space Center. The footage from these cameras was then edited and compiled to create the final time-lapse video.

Why is the Space Shuttle program significant?

The Space Shuttle program was a groundbreaking and historic program that allowed for human spaceflight and exploration. It played a crucial role in the development of space technology and in expanding our understanding of the universe.

What are the benefits of creating a time-lapse movie of the final shuttle launch?

The time-lapse movie allows viewers to witness the shuttle launch in a condensed and visually stunning manner. It also serves as a historic record of the final launch of the Space Shuttle program and can be used for educational and inspirational purposes.

Where can I watch the time-lapse movie?

The time-lapse movie can be found on various online platforms, such as YouTube or Vimeo. It may also be available for viewing at museums or other space-related exhibitions.
