In summary, the conversation discusses the appearance of a countdown clock on Google's homepage when the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button is clicked. It is counting down the seconds until New Year's, but one person jokingly suggests that it could be counting down to the end of the world. Another person mentions a conspiracy theory about Google gaining self-awareness and predicting the end of the world, but ultimately it is just a playful addition to the search engine's homepage.

The countdown clock appears when you click on the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button on the search engine's homepage.

What is this all about?

If my arithmetic is correct (aka I punched it into a calculator), it is counting down the seconds until the New Years.

It's the end of the world.

Google has collected so much information that it gained self-awareness and has determined exactly when the world will end.

To avoid mass hysteria Google decided not to divulge the information publicly, but instead created the unlabeled count-down because it couldn't keep the information entirely to itself... I mean honestly who would be able to keep the last greatest secret to themselves.

You know, it would be such an interesting world if I actually believed in conspiracy theories.
