Hawking "very ill"

LONDON (AFP) — Scientist Stephen Hawking, the author of "A Brief History Of Time", is "very ill" in hospital, Cambridge University said Monday.

Hawking, 67, has achieved international fame despite being wheelchair-bound because of motor neurone disease and having to communicate through a voice synthesiser.

Best wishes to him and his family.

Sad, but not surprising news.

Hope he lives long enough to hear the discovery of the Higgs boson.

That is good news. The reports yesterday sounded pretty grim.

That IS good news. Anybody that suffers from respiratory illnesses can tell you that it can be quite exhausting to cough enough to clear mucus from airways, so a chest infection for a man in Hawking's condition could be big trouble. My wife's cousin is married to a respiratory therapist, and her toughest challenges involve people who are physically impaired or who suffer from paralysis or other conditions that make productive coughing difficult or impossible.
