Hemodynamics- a meeting point for physiologists and physicists

    hi i have a nagging doubt in physiology..i hope one of you will help me out.
    Why does increase in total peripheral resistance cause and increase in arterial pressure? i know the equation "pressure = flow * resistance" basically explains this but i wanna know the exact dynamics of blood. why would increased resistance cause an increase in pressure? and conversely, if there is vasodilation of all the peripheral arterioles, the arterial pressure drops..ie when the resistance in the circuit decreases, its causing a drop in the pressure. Why is this happening??
