If this is a DC motor with a commutator then speed is independent of the number of pole slots.
Unloaded speed is proportional to motor voltage. To increase speed, reduce the number of turns on each pole while thickening the wire to maintain the same weight of copper. Alternatively, increase the voltage and reduce the load.
What moves, the magnet or the wound armature? Is it a 500mW or 500kW motor?
You need to be more specific about the motor and load you have and how much faster you want it to go.
