How does a commutator reverse the current?

  1. Jul 29, 2008 #1
    Hello everyone  ,

I have being trying to figure out how the commutator actually reverses the current in an electric motor and how it gets DC from AC current in a generator. I don't understand about the brushes either. I understand how the concept works really well though. I have being searching this on the internet and couldn't get a satisfying answer. If any of you could answer this question I would be very impressed and greatful. Thank you

You can use this diagram to assist me if you want.
