How much does the Earths Atmosphere weigh?

In summary, the weight of the Earth's atmosphere is approximately 5 x 10^18 Kg. To calculate this, one can multiply the atmospheric pressure (14.7 PSI or 101325 Pascal) by the surface area of the Earth. Alternatively, using a simpler approximation of 10^5 Pa for atmospheric pressure can also give a good estimate of the weight.

[itex] \sim 5 \cdot 10^{18} \ Kg [/itex].

What's the definition of atmospherical pressure ?

Daniel.

Isn't what you're listing the mass, rather than the weight of the atmosphere?

I would be inclined to multiply 19 PSI by the surface area of the earth.

NateTG's right, except that atmospheric pressure is 14.7 PSI.

You mean 14.7 psi, NateTG. I'd be inclined to do the same.

atmospheric pressure is 101325 Pascal. i don't know the wieght.

to many numbers, i think [tex]10^5 Pa[/tex] will be good enough.

What is the weight of the Earth's atmosphere?

The weight of the Earth's atmosphere is approximately 5.5 quadrillion tons, or 1.2 x 10^19 pounds.

How is the weight of the Earth's atmosphere calculated?

The weight of the Earth's atmosphere is calculated by determining the average density of the atmosphere and multiplying it by the total surface area of the Earth.

What is the composition of the Earth's atmosphere?

The Earth's atmosphere is primarily composed of nitrogen (78%), oxygen (21%), and trace amounts of other gases such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, and argon.

Has the weight of the Earth's atmosphere changed over time?

The weight of the Earth's atmosphere has remained relatively constant over time. While there may be slight variations due to changes in atmospheric conditions, it is considered a closed system and the overall weight remains the same.

How does the weight of the Earth's atmosphere compare to other planets?

The Earth's atmosphere is relatively heavy compared to other planets in our solar system. However, it is much less dense than the atmospheres of gas giants like Jupiter and Saturn.
