How to validate charge distribution given potential?

  1. Sep 14, 2011 #1
Hello everyone. I have a electrostatic question.
    http://www.tutorvista.com/content/physics/physics-i/static-electric-current/gold-leaf-electroscope.php" [Broken]

At the bottom of this link, under section "Distribution of charge over surfaces". We see sphere has uniform surface charge density. But the irregular pointed pear shape has non-uniform distribution.

My question is other than sphere, for example a cubic, if we know the voltage (electric potential) on the surface, do we have an exact solution for the surface distribution?
