Induction generator revisited

  • #1
Can anyone tell me what effect the value of the capacitor in an induction generator has. I am generating 230V, at an unknown speed. I am not particularly concerned about the generated frequency, but I want to run the thing at higher revs, and would like to know whether I need to reduce the capacitance or increase it. I suspect, reduce, but as I don't have capacitors to hand, I would like to buy the right one.

The value of the capacitor in an induction generator affects the amount of current that is drawn from the generator. The higher the capacitance, the more current will be drawn from the generator. This means that if you want to increase the speed of the generator, you should reduce the capacitance to reduce the current draw. Reducing the capacitance will also result in a lower output voltage, so it is important to consider what output voltage you need when selecting the capacitor.
