Information on construction elevators (construction hoists, buck hoists)

  1. Mar 20, 2012 #1
    Hi all,

I am trying to complete a report on 'Construction Elevators'. I have found some good but, limited information on the internet and was wondering if anyone would be able to provide me with or direct me to more information.

    Some of my questions:

    • how are they initially assembled and later extended as the structure increases in height?
    • how are they powered?
    • when would a hoist be used over more traditional means of vertical access (scaffolding, cranes)?
    • when is the 'right time' to assemble a hoist during construction? right time to dissassemble?
    • how is the car tied into each floor - that is, how is the gap between the car and the building 'bridged' safely and securely?

    Thanks.
