Is it appropriate to ask questions to faculties in the department?

  1. Jul 14, 2012 #1
I used to learn math by myself but found it difficult because I often came upon problems that I didn't understand and nobody could help with them.

Now I get a chance to study in a math center and there are many specialists. I really want to ask them my questions but I'm afraid whether it is appropriate. Because I think professors maybe very busy and my problems are too elementary for them, it seems that explaining my questions is a waste of their time.

For example, Professor Richard Schoen of Stanford University was at the center this year from March to June, was it appropriate to ask him questions in Riemann Geometry?

I'm sorry that my question seems too naive, but I really need helps. Thank you very much! :)
